MUSHROOM KINGDOM OF EZILI
This play is an Afro-Surrealistic show, with a fiction based speculative story based in mycelium knowledge. Mushrooms are our consultants, but we are the storytellers. The Mushroom Kingdom of Ezili is a three-act play with music that immerses us in a magical land of sentient mushrooms, ruled by pleasure-activist Queen Milfie. The story follows Queen Milfie’s efforts to fight against the exploitation of herbal medicine by human overconsumption amid climate disaster. The plot thickens when a local artist named George seeks hallucinogenic mushrooms to cope with their failing art career and attacks Queen Milfie's Mushroom Kingdom. After a solar eclipse, the three communities are intrinsically tied, where all the stories and imaginations that George's share, impact a real Mud Person from the Mushroom Kingdom. We follow Mud People who are essentially kidnapped from the Black feminist utopia of Ezili and placed into the world of Plot, George's imagination. The issue we find is that George suffers from internalized anti-Blackness, and the world of Plot - a microcosm for the anti-black commercial theatrical world - is not the same reality they were used to in the land of The Mushroom Kingdom of Ezili. The Mud People resist the stories they are subjected to, and we follow the lovers' voyage back to their mushroom mainland. Once the Mud People return to the Kingdom, reporting their experiences to the Queen, we follow Queen Milfie’s response from mystic magic to righteous anger. Thus, Queen Milfie leads the Mushroom Kingdom down an Era of Poison as a defensive and offensive posture against George. Queen Milfie summons George and offers magic to him to learn his lesson about self-love and eco-womanism. THE CALLING | Star Mitchell
THE CALLING is a performance installation that aims to uncover the intersectionality between the transatlantic slave trade, afro-futurism, and water-consciousness. Supported by Film, live sound scoring, sculpture, and movement. We are recreating a source of healing and a site of terror, a cradle of freedom and a resting place for death, a harbinger of disaster, and a place of shelter and safety. If nature is reflective of our spiritual, emotional, and societal conditions, as we pollute the Earth and water, are we also polluting our spiritual bodies? Dancers: Cyan Hunter, Jelani Best, Star Mitchell, Kneaku Ashe Sound: Doum Videography: Kaylea Scott

Reclaiming The Home
Resident Artist Star Mitchell is using their personal history as a multidisciplinary practice in Reclaiming the Home. Reclaiming the Home is an exhibit, bringing attention towards the relationship between sexual assault , Hyper sexuality, and BDSM culture. While reclaiming ownership over the home that is our body, Mitchell is continuously implementing healing as a practice through their work. Standing firmly in their pleasure (as an Assault Survivor) without fear, or judgement is the inspiration behind this work. “Reclaiming the Home “creates a gaze into Star’s home through Sexual Spells. Visual Mediums will be in the form of movement, virtual poetry, cinematic exempts and natural elements. Creating the bridge between Personal Boundaries after sexual assault and Boundaries within BDSM Practices. Performed February 13.2022 in Collaboration with Jelani Best for Center for Performance Researchers Sunday Salon. Closing Statement : I am grateful that I have a platform to share something so personal and most importantly shed these experiences as I am not who I was, and only I can determine who I am. As I continue to re-work my personal and shared narratives. I ask the community for kindness and feedback in. the comments. Tell me how it made you feel! What sounds or sensations really came up for you.
