About The Artist

 Star Mitchell 

They|Them|Theirs

Star Mitchell is a transmutting force committed to using their art to heal and guide them closer toward ancestral connection. A native New Yorker, multidisciplinary artist, Choreographer, and Performance Educator. Their experience and commitment towards arts education, and  creative assistance has been a continuous offering toward their community since 2016. 

As a performance educator, they focus on teaching movement as an interpersonal connection. Reimagining narratives pertaining to black and brown folks while servicing Arts and Literacy programs throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, and Brooklyn.

As a performer and choreographer Star has worked in collaboration with Philly Dance Class Share (2024), and Oskar Sinclair's "I'll Be at Home " Series (2024). DJ Honey B (2023), Bristol Mary Dance Company (2023), and EMERGE-NYC Summer Cohort (2023).  Center for Performance Research as an Artist in Residency (2022). The Shed’s Open Call as a guest choreographer for Ana María Agüero Jahannes's “Field Day “ (2021), A City Artist Corps Grant recipient (2021). A former fellow of  Healing The Black Body Fellowship (2019- 2020), and Caitlin Mahon’s Mayhem Dance Company while Pursuing their BFA in Dance at SUNY The College at Brockport (2018). 

 Star is currently working with Healing The Black Body as their Programs Coordinator. Artistically focusing on offering movement workshops and classes to the community and seeking performance opportunities overseas. Breathing new life into their past /future works.
