  ARTIST BIO

Star Mitchell (They|Them) is a luminous force of rebirth. As a Native New Yorker, they use their art to honor their ancestral ties and challenge narratives around the Black body and healing. Since 2016, Star has taught movement as interpersonal connection, providing creative assistance, movement coordination, and program coordination for Black and Brown youth. is important to acknowledge that these offerings would not exist without the spirit of Sankofa—“Go Back and Get It.” Looking back has fortified Star’s desire to reimagine worlds, uproot traumas, and speakspoken truths, which has been the foundation for many of their creative choices. Star has been dedicated to collaboration and community engagement.

Presently Star is a Pioneers Go East Mentee, Bristol Mary Company Member, and Teaching Artist in Bedstuy, BK. Working towards a Residency overseas.
